Selling Your Book on Amazon...This is a MUST Buy!

When I received my copy of Sell Your Book on Amazon, I initially did not think I would learn all that much from it. Well, I take that back! I have read the book and now use it as a guide for most everything I do on Amazon. And by the way, I received the 2010 updated version, so it's not old stuff from 2007.

I have tabbed certain sections so that I have easy access to them as I continue to learn to use Amazon. I certainly did not realize there was so much to this one site on the internet but "Sell Your Book on Amazon" has certainly educated me on how to use it to my advantage.

Thanks Brent for putting this together. I know it will help many more authors like myself, especially the newbies!

My reading of "Sell Your Book on Amazon" by Brent Sampson was the right book for me at the right time. Having recently published two titles ("Boxing Basics" and "Self Defense Basics") I found myuself deluged with offers from promoters and marketing specialists. They all hinted at great possiblities but they were vague as to details. My research into book promotion possibilities kept bringing me back to what is being done by Amazon. Sampson's book simplified internet promotion possibilites for me. Included in the book were easy to understand directions explaining all of the basics that I needed to know to continue with a successful launch for my publicxations. Yes, the book is simplistic, but that is the beauty of it. In my books, I emphasize the importance of basics for the psychomotor learning of martial arts skills. In the case of Sampson's book, he is emphasizing certain basic internet techniques (links) that will guide the reader through the cognitive basics of marketing their publications through Amazon. This book worked for me and I gave it 5 stars.

How to and How NOT to

My publisher does not subscribe to Amazon's SITB so I had to buy this book to figure out how to go about it independently. Aside from the fact that its word count is comparable to a magazine article, it has a lot of information that was helpful. Sampson took me by the hand to set up an author profile page, Amazon Advantage, SITB, image uploads, and encouraged book reviews. For the computer savvy this may be self evident; not for me. I did have to e-mail and phone Amazon on many occasions to connect the dots from Sampson's threads; there were many missing links.
Mr. Sampson! I have been chastised MERCILESSLY for including a link to my book by discussion groups and reviewers. You say this is "key!" Now I find that it's against Amazon guidelines. That's quite a serious oversight Brent.
Outskirts Press will no doubt benefit from this publication as Mr. Sampson is the CEO. Would it encourage me to publish through Outskirts? Not sure.

Useful Information If You Dig For It

I read Sell Your Book on Amazon, Second Edition, by Brent Sampson, published in 2010 by [...].

This book provides an insight into the many ways you can sell books on Amazon.com. These techniques could be useful to book publishers of all sizes, but I believe the independent publisher or self publisher will benefit most. Sampson describes ways to increase sales and profits in a simple, easy to follow format.

I bought this book because I have a self-published book due out soon and I know it will be up to me to create interest in the book. Amazon is the best known online bookstore in the world and it is profitable because it helps publishers sell books. Sampson's book tells how to take advantage of the many ways Amazon can help.

Sell Your Book on Amazon describes how to set up your author center and profile. It describes how to take advantage of reviews, lists, and guides. It tells you how to automatically add your blog to Amazon.

The book also tells the reader how Amazon works and how it changes. It also tells you how you might make more profit on each sale.

Although my book is not out yet and I haven't used what I learned, I feel confident now that I can get more out of the Amazon services. The only trouble I had with the book was that there tended to be some repetition. Sampson would describe a technique in detail in an introductory summary and then again in a detail chapter. You have to dig around for the information.
Very Helpful and Informative

Amazon seems to be THE main venue for book sales these days, at least for me. When I started the publishing process on my first book, I took it for granted that Amazon sales would have to be my primary area of concentration. That being said, there was so much about Amazon marketing that I didn't know, or have any idea even existed, until I read this book. It explains the ins and outs in easy-to-understand terms, and is loaded with helpful suggestions to maximize your sales, many of which take only a few minutes to do. Brent Sampson's focus here is on marketing rather than the other aspects of book publishing, and he has a unique ability to view the possibilities from many different angles and pass on this knowledge to his readers. I really like the Tactic Ranking System he came up with, rating each marketing strategy with from 1 to 5 stars to indicate which will give you the most return (in terms of exposure/ profit) on your investment (of time/ cost). This made it fairly easy to flip through the book and pick out the five-star tactics to concentrate on first, followed by the four-star ones, and leave the lower ranked ones for a slow day. I highly recommend this book to anyone new to the Amazon selling scene.
